There was a rumor earlier this summer that Mbappe was behind Pochettino’s sacking. Now, talk of Kylian Mbappé’s growing influence at Paris Saint-Germain has spread. But Pochettino remains unconvinced that the France international striker has tried to sack him.
Paris Saint-Germain terminated Mauricio Pochettino’s contract last July, shortly before Christopher Galtier took over as Paris Saint-Germain’s coach. The Argentina boss was not alone in leaving the capital club this summer, though, with sporting director Leonardo also being sacked.
In an interview with Argentinian media Infobae, the 50-year-old Pochettino addressed rumors that “Kylian Mbappé could play a role in his sacking”.
“What I think is that PSG have done everything possible to retain Kylian, and I also agree with that,” Pochettino said. “He is one of the best players in world football today, and I think that PSG, having all the resources to do it, have convinced him to stay.”
“But I don’t think Kylian is the one who designed the new project either. Those who rule, in this case, the president [Nasser Al-Khelaifi], are those who would have thought that the most convenient thing was a new project in the club.”
