Roberto Martinez was the coach of the Belgium football team since 2016, but he stepped down from his role after the team faced a disappointing exit from the FIFA World Cup 2022 on Thursday, 1st December.
Under his management, Belgium stayed at the top of the FIFA World rankings for so many days. But Belgium missed countless opportunities for goals in the game against Croatia, and these goals could have allowed them to enter the knockout stage.
“We thank Roberto Martínez for everything he achieved with this Golden Generation, as a coach as well as a technical director: four consecutive years number one on the FIFA-ranking, a bronze medal at the 2018 World Cup, qualification for the UEFA 2021 Euros, the 2021 UEFA Nations League Final Four and the 2022 World Cup,” CEO Peter Bossaert said.
