Paris Saint-Germain has become a major player on the European stage after a run of excellent results. In addition to their excellent performances, Paris Saint-Germain is known around the world for their high spending and huge wages. Today, instead of talking about the glorious deeds of Paris Saint-Germain, let’s talk about the top 10 players with the highest transfer money from Paris Saint-Germain so far.

#10. Javier Pastore – €40m (from Palermo, 2011)

On August 6, 2011, Javier Pastore left Palermo to join Paris Saint-Germain and has the number 27 jersey. The entire transfer fee is 39.8 million euros. But still unexpected is that his agent Marcelo Simonian received 12.5 million euros (do not know whether including agency fees). Palermo said the club received only 22.8 million euros in total.

On 11 September 2011, Javier Pastore scored his first goal for Paris Saint-Germain in a 1-0 Ligue 1 win over Stade Brestois. Although “El Flaco” could never reach his potential in the world game, he spent seven years at Paris Saint-Germain, where he became a staunch fan favorite. During his seven years at Paris Saint-Germain, he made 269 appearances and scored 45 goals.

#9. Thiago Silva – €42m (from Milan, 2012)

In the summer of 2012, Thiago Silva left Milan to join Paris Saint-Germain. The transfer fee is rumored to be around 42 million euros, which would make Thiago Silva the most expensive defender in football history. At his arrival, Silva was presented to the media as the “best defender in the world” by PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

Thiago Silva became a Paris Saint-Germain legend, scoring 17 goals in over 300 appearances for the club. His last game was a loss to Bayern Munich in the 2020 Champions League final.

#8. Ángel Di María – €44m (from Man Utd, 2015)

In 2015 Manchester United announced that Ángel Di María would move to French champions Paris Saint-Germain. The cost was not disclosed, but is believed to be around £44 million. Ángel Di María made his Ligue 1 debut as a substitute for Lucas in the 66th minute away at Monaco on 30 August.

At the end of the 2015-16 season, Ángel Di María set a new League 1 record with 18 assists. During his time at Paris Saint-Germain, Ángel Di María played 295 games and scored 92 goals.

#7. Lucas Moura – €45m (from São Paulo, 2014)

Lucas Moura was known as a prodigy when he arrived in Paris in January 2014. On 8 August 2012, Paris Saint-Germain announced that Lucas Moura would transfer to the club in January 2013. At the time, he was Paris Saint-Germain’s most expensive signing. The transfer fee is reported to be around €45m (£38m).
On 11 January 2013, Lucas Moura made his debut for PSG against AC Ajaccio. On 13 September 2013, he scored his first goal for Paris Saint-Germain in PSG’s 2-0 win over Bordeaux. He played 229 games for Paris Saint-Germain, scoring a total of 46 goals.

On January 31, 2018, Lucas Moura joined Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. Moura is a quick, gifted winger whose explosive acceleration, agility and speed make him a dangerous attacking player.

#6. David Luiz – €50m (from Chelsea, 2014)

David Luiz was the only major signing at Paris Saint-Germain in the 2014 summer transfer window. During his two years at Paris Saint-Germain, he played a total of 89 games and scored 8 goals.

On June 13, 2014, David Luiz left Chelsea with a transfer fee of 50 million pounds and moved to French club Paris Saint-Germain, setting a world record for a defender. He made his Ligue 1 debut on 16 August and helped Paris Saint-Germain beat Bastia 2-0 at the Parc des Princes. In his first season at Paris Saint-Germain, David Luiz won a domestic treble of Ligue 1, French Cup and Ligue 1, in addition to the trophy. In August 2016, David Luiz returned to Chelsea for a fee of £34 million.

#5. Mauro Icardi – €60m (from Inter, 2020)

On September 2, 2019, Mauro Icardi joined French club Paris Saint-Germain with a loan option of 70 million euros, on a one-season loan. He made his debut as a substitute in Paris Saint-Germain’s 1-0 win over Strasbourg on September 14.
On 31 May 2020, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan reached an agreement on the transfer of Mauro Icardi. The transfer amount is reported to be 60 million euros. After officially joining Paris Saint-Germain, he played a total of 92 games and scored 38 goals.

#4. Achraf Hakimi – €60m (from Inter, 2021)

On July 6, 2021, Paris Saint-Germain signed right-wing defender Achraf Hakimi from Inter Milan for 60 million euros. Achraf Hakimi arrived in Paris as one of the most famous defenders in European football, and now one of the most expensive. On 7 August 2021, Achraf Hakimi made his Ligue 1 debut for Paris Saint-Germain. So far, he has played 44 games for Paris Saint-Germain, scoring a total of 5 goals.

#3. Edinson Cavani – €64m (from Napoli, 2013)

When Paris Saint-Germain signed Edinson Cavani, he was considered one of the deadliest strikers in Europe. On July 16, 2013, Edinson Cavani joined Paris Saint-Germain for a transfer fee believed to be around 64 million euros. The reported amount makes Edinson Cavani a record signing in French football.

A quick, strong, opportunistic and prolific forward with good technique, and a tall, slender frame, Cavani has been described as a “modern striker” and is nicknamed El Matador (‘The Bullfighter’). #2. Kylian Mbappe – €145m (from Monaco, 2018)

On 31 August 2017, Paris Saint-Germain announced the signing of Mbappé from Monaco on loan. He joined Paris Saint-Germain for 145 million euros plus 35 million euros in extras. That makes him the most expensive teenager ever and the most expensive transfer ever made in a domestic league. He is also the second-most-transferred player of all time, just behind teammate Neymar.

On 3 August 2017, Barcelona announced that Neymar’s legal representatives made a payment of €222 million to the club, which constituted the most expensive transfer ever.
