OMG OMG OMG! Messi did it. We can always trust Messi!

Do not tell me you weren’t nervous before this game started, because I won’t believe it. BUT, I also do not believe that you, a real fan, don’t believe Messi.

The 35-year-old Messi announced before the tournament that this World Cup, his fifth, would be his last. That beautiful golden trophy is the only title he wants. After their shocking 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia, they knew… everyone knew that “defeat would mean elimination” in this game. AND Lionel Messi stars to revive Argentina’s hopes, all but dash Mexico’s!

For the first 63 minutes of this, Lionel Messi was the picture of frustration. Toggling between the right flank and the center of the field, he barely touched the ball against a Mexico team hellbent on containing him.

But starting in the 64th minute of the game, Messi found the magic in his powerful left foot, and his goal gave Argentina a 2-0 win over Mexico, giving his side a chance to get out of trouble again.

Argentina is currently second in Group C, one point behind Poland.

“Today, another World Cup starts for Argentina,” Messi said after the game. “I tell people the same thing, that they continue to believe. Today we did what we had to do.

“We had no other choice. We had to win so that we depended only on ourselves… In the first half, we didn’t play as we should, and in the second when we calmed down, we started to play the ball better and after the goal, we went back to being what we are.”
